New Conferences Announced

Twenty (20) new conferences of interest to professionals and others who are working with abused and at-risk elders and vulnerable adults were added this month to the list kept at www.wordbridges.net/elderabuse/events/index.html,

Conference Series

Three series of domestic violence workshops deserve notice. One specifically targets religious leaders, one focuses particularly on rural prosecutions, and one is a four-day training on a range of issues. All three series explicitly focus on community organizing.

Train the Trainer Domestic Violence Programs are 4-day programs designed for law enforcement, advocates, prosecutors, and community members and cover issues such as dynamics of domestic violence, rural cultural issues, and community organizing around domestic violence issues. They are co-sponsored by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and the National Training Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence. For information, call 800-743-5382, x. 3669 or 512-407-9020. Rural Law Enforcement Training: Domestic Violence Intervention and Investigation is a tuition-free, two-day training focusing on domestic violence intervention and investigation, including enhancing officer and victim safety, increasing offender accountability, improving evidence-based investigation with more effective prosecution of domestic violence crimes, and encouraging a community response to domestic violence between law enforcement, advocates and prosecutors. These are co-sponsored by the National Sheriffs Association and the National Training Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence. Leadership Training Event on Religious Resources and Roadblocks to Ending Violence Against Women is a two-day training whose goal is to ensure that religious leaders in your community are resources and not roadblocks in working to end sexual and domestic violence. Three videos and two books are included with this training. Teams of two staff persons are encouraged to attend. Space is limited to 25 teams per training. Prosecution

In addition to the Train the Trainer Domestic Violence programs mentioned above, this conference focuses on prosecution:

Native American Issues

Vulnerable Adult and Elder Abuse Conferences
